| Significance of Dairy Sector on National Economy Starting from a raw material production about 8.000 M litres in 2003, and with an estimate of AR$ 0,454 cents per litre as average price in 2003, the primary production value is around AR$ 3.630 M a year (aprox. U$S 1.210 million). On the other hand, invoice according to dairy manufacturing sector is around AR$ 5.000 Millions considering domestic market sales and AR$ 1500 M for export sales.
Considering milk primary production as a component of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) it represents around 7-8% of agricultural sector (that represents itself more than 5% of GDP). Dairy industry gravity is around 2% of Manufacure sector Gross Product, and almost as important as Meat industry (including pork and cold meat).
Employment positions created after sector's activity are quite significant, rising around 25,000 direct work positions in dairy industry, and around 5,000 positions concerning transports and retail and wholesale distribution channels. On top, 35,000 employment positions must be added due to direct farm activity (14,000 farms and 2.5 employees per farm). As a result, 70000 persons are directly employed by dairy industries involved in the whole chain, without taking into account materials and services providers, along with other activities it dragges.
